To live up to NATURIGIN’s new year’s resolution #2, this week, I have made a small guide for you including tips on how to get healthy hair.
Healthy Hair Wash
‘Don’t wash your hair too often!’
You’ve probably heard this many times before; your hair will be greasy and damaged if you wash it too much! But how much is really too much, and what is the deal with this hair wash tip? Is it true?
Washing your hair too much may leave your hair dried out and leached out of natural oils – consequences that will eventually lead to unhealthy and damaged hair. HOWEVER, more decisive for the health of your hair are the products you use in the shower. If you use natural products with natural oils, you can probably wash your hair every day without damaging it.
So our advice is that you strive to only wash your hair every other day. But if you generally have greasy hair, simply choose the right products, and you can wash your hair when necessary. Sometimes, instead of washing your hair in the shower, try using a dry shampoo to freshen up the hair.
Wash your hair with the right products
A message that we really want to get across is how much applying the ‘right’ products can induce healthy hair. But what are the right products and the right shampoo? The hair care market offers countless different products, thus choosing the right one for you can be quite a challenge. But a good place to start for all of you who seek a healthier solution is to choose a shampoo without sulfates and parabens. These are both chemicals that are unnecessarily added to many hair products, but which have an unhealthy impact on you and your hair.
Another simple, yet helpful, tip is to go for a shampoo that fits and works for your hair type. Try to define whether you have curly or straight hair, coarse or oily hair, coloured hair or dry hair and go for a shampoo that works best for your hair type.
If you like using conditioner, the same advice goes here: Find a conditioner that suits your hair and the level and type of ‘damage’ that needs to be repaired. Another tip when choosing your conditioner is to find one that doesn’t contain too much protein. Proteins are the building blocks of our hair, so you should aim for a conditioner with a balanced mix of ingredients.
Healthy Hair Cuts
How to avoid split ends?
This is a question that probably all of us would like answered no matter the length and colour of our hair. You probably know the feeling when your ends start looking like dead grass and you tie your hair in a bun every day to hide it? Once the hairs start splitting, the only right solution is to cut them. You can’t really do anything to repair split ends, so you should always plan routine trips to the hairdresser every six to eight weeks to get rid of damaged and split ends.
However, there are certain things that you can do to prevent split ends as much as possible. We have put together a short list of hair care tips for you to minimise split ends:
Keep your hair nourished and moisturised all the time.
Always use heat protector when applying hot styling tools.
Use natural and organic hair products.
Be gentle when towel drying, brushing and de-tangling your hair.
Get trims regularly to get rid of split ends that appear even though you follow these tips.
Healthy Hair Oils
If you want to do something extra for your hair, a simple advice is to use a hair oil twice a week. When your hair is dry and needs some extra care to get its spark back, hair oil is your best friend! Hair oils gather your ends and are affective for healthy hair. You can use them a few hours before showering as a kind of treatment or when styling your hair. Various types of oils exist and the most desirable solution would be to mix almond, olive, coconut and lavender oils in equal proportions. Otherwise, try to test different types to find the product you like the best.
